as the vice president met with the nra at the white house as part of his gun task force. >> a teacher at that high school is being called a hero to convince the 16-year-old shooter to put down the gun. it happened a couple of hours north of los angeles. a neighbor noticed the boy walking into the school and called 911. the boy shot one classmate, and missed another before the teacher talked him down. that teacher actually got hit in the head with one of the pellets. police arrested him. he apparently stole the shotgun from his brother and reportedly was suspended last year for making a hit list of targets. there is supposed to be an armed guard at the school, but he was late after getting stuck in the snow. >>> to the vice president's gun task force, later today he's meeting with video game executives. yesterday he met with the nra and that didn't go so well. the gun lobby blasted biden saying it will defend second amendment rights to own guns. biden confirmed he won't wait until the end of the month and wants background checks for every gun purchased without exception. >> universal b

know, the nra is not in line with an awful lot of their members, and that is something we're counting on to go forward. i've gone through this before. i know what the battles are going to be. i know the nra is probably already out there. you probably saw that new ad that they just put out attacking the president and his two daughters. that's crazy. everybody knows that the president and his family have to be protected. but to try to push that over on to the, their probably most radical members of the nra, that's now how the general public feels. i believe we can do it. this time it is different. this time it's gone to the heart of every mother, father, gra grandparent thinking about their children, grandchildren. we have to do something. all these mass killings and the killings that happen every single day, as the president said, 900 people have died since the day that sandy hook happened. that's too many of our people. i'm speaking as a nurse. it's cost us over $200 billion a year for those that survive. and for everything that we need to do to protect our cities and our communities.

a larger debate about military style assault rifles. right after the nra's press conference. police commissioner of new york city ray kelly was angry at the press conference because he thought that the nra should have addressed military assault rifles. that there should have been some concession here. he was specifically talking about new york city. his jurisdiction. can we have a larger debate about this? does this law maybe prestage a larger national law. so military assault style rifle bans, these large capacities, ammunition clips. is that something we will see nationally? will that pass congress? is that something that needs to happen? i want to applaud the president for doing something. that something is probably not what we need to do. who is going to be affected by all of these laws? whether it's reducing the amount of rounds a weapon can handle? whether it's the modification of the weapon. it's only going to be the honest, innocent people that these new laws are going to effect. just like you said, tucker. the love these weapons are already on the street. you enact these ne

groups which are distinct from but not necessarily disagree with the gun owner groups from the nra and others, but they have a different perspective if they include association of fish and wildlife, bluewater strategies, outdoor association, et cetera. yesterday we met with gun owners ranging from groups from the defense of small arms advisory council headed by retired major general, firearms and export roundtable, the independent firearms owners, nra, et cetera. and is actually difference among them as well. it's not a uniform view. and we also met with retailers, because they are a part of this potential solution because of background checks and like, all the box stores and sporting goods operations who sell of awful lot of weapons. and we met with your colleagues in hollywood yesterday. the entertainment industry, but you are entertaining as well. but the entertaining industry, film and broadcasters. and we will be meeting with technology experts, because to overstate the case, but a lot could change if for example, every gun purchase could only be fired by a person who purchase

congress is cowed by the nra? >> that is pretty clear, isn't it? you know, when you grappa -- when you grow upo -- you know, it is easy to say no to an opponent or to a constituency of the other party. it is tougher to say no to a friend. to a supporter. when you get these jobs, elected to the congress or the legislature or you get elected as mayor, a measure of your oath is when you can look a friend in the eye, someone that he mostly agree with and say, i do not agree with you and you are wrong on this issue. i think the nra is wrong when they say the answer to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. when they say that teachers ought to be carrying guns in elementary schools. when they say that virtually no gun legislation is acceptable to them prepared -- to them. that is, to me, and extreme position. i would hope there are republicans and democrats who can look them in the eye and say, i'm sorry, mostly agree with you, but you are wrong puritan -- but you are wrong. i still have a few months left. i would like to continue in public life. i have a thin majority whip, majority lead
